Young stars from the Leamington FC Football Academy have been helping the country’s top coaches take the next step in their development during a visit to England’s national football centre.
Players from the academy, which is run in partnership with college group WCG and based at Moreton Morrell College, were invited to support the UEFA B Licence coaching courses taking place at St George’s Park.
More than 20 players from the academy travelled to the home of England’s football teams and FA education across the two days.
During the visit, they took part in a series of drills and exercises to put the coaches being tested through their paces.
They were also given a chance to tour the world-class facilities at St George’s Park and see the environment in which athletes at the elite level train.
Dylan Diggle, 17, was one of the players involved on the day and said it was a great experience.
“It was really good. We were coached by top level coaches who are the best at what they do and after seeing them in action it made me realise it might be an avenue I want to explore with my career,” said Dylan.
“The pitches there were immaculate and everyone loved the experience.”
The opportunity arose from a relationship formed between Leamington FC and Ian King, Coach Developer at the Professional Footballers Association.
Mark Fogarty, Head of Football Development at Leamington FC, said: "It was a fantastic opportunity for our players and staff to experience some of the best facilities in world football at St Georges Park and one that they won't forget in a hurry.
“Our students were asked to play in the practice sessions while high level coaches from around the country are assessed by FA staff as to their suitability to receive various coaching awards.
“It was important for the players to behave in the most professional way and it will give them great life skills for the future in terms of their concentration over long periods of time, which will only serve them well in their careers and future education.”
WCG is one of the few colleges in the country to work directly with a football club on an education scheme.
Students benefit from up to 10 hours of additional football a week and get to play some of their fixtures at the club's 3,050-capacity Your Co-op Community Stadium.
Philippa Gerrard, Head of Department for Sport at WCG, said: “This was an incredible opportunity for players in the academy to visit a facility like St George’s Park. To train in an environment like that will give them something to really strive towards.
“A big part of the academy is the opportunities it presents to gain an insight into the world of football and everything that goes into elite sport, and visits like this to the nation’s premier facilities are a great way to support that.”
Moreton Morrell College will be hosting its next open day on Thursday, June 24 from 5.30pm to 8pm.

Chairman Jim Scott said, ‘We recognise that these are challenging times for many people hence the decision by the Board of Directors to freeze prices. Last summer in recognition of the very uncertain circumstances, we made the decision not to sell season tickets, as we felt it would be very unfair to take fans money when there were so many unknowns re spectator attendance.

We are far more confident that spectators will be allowed to attend games from the outset of the coming season and thus are comfortable to sell season tickets, having already seen quite a few enquiries re how and when they can be purchased by fans who are clearly anxious to get back to watching their beloved Brakes.

We too cannot wait for you to come back through the gate as I have to confess it was a pretty soulless experience watching the team behind closed doors last season. It was even more disappointing that fans were unable to cheer the team on in light of their best level of performance since acquiring Step 2 status.

We look forward to seeing you in July when we have an exciting programme of pre-season friendlies, details of which will be announced in the next few weeks.’

Following ongoing, sustained discriminatory abuse online, Leamington FC will be using the week beginning 26 April as a designated online abuse awareness week. Throughout the week, we will be using our position on different social media platforms to alert people of what to do when seeing discriminatory abuse online culminating in joining the English football community in a boycott of social media from 15:00 on Friday 30 April to 23:59 on Monday 3 May.

Recent ongoings in the football world have shown the power fans have. It is important that this issue is not brushed under the carpet and instead is a talking point. Social media is so important to fans - as has been shown this last season with no fans being allowed into games at Your Co-op Community Stadium - but simply put: social media companies need to act now to stop the increasing levels of discriminatory abuse on their platforms. It happens on every site repeatedly: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok.

Our strong stance to combat discriminatory abuse online will not stop with the boycott, with a stronger focus on combatting it throughout the 2021/22 season across our social media channels alongside our continued focus on mental health awareness.

Leamington FC are delighted to announce a four year partnership with Surridge Sport who will be the club's new official kit suppliers. Surridge’s history dates back to 1863 when they originally started repairing cricket bats and then manufactured them in the following years. They first made an impact in football when they designed the first lace-less synthetic football the SS Cobbler which was selected as the official match ball for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. At the turn of the 21st century they expanded into the sportswear business and laterally have seen a huge growth in the football arena.

Surridge Sports Sales Director Danny Vilia stated, “Football has been one of the biggest growth areas for Surridge Sport in recent years with more and more clubs joining the brand. With over 500 players within Leamington FC we will be creating designs to match the clubs ambitions and feel a sense of pride when taking to the field. Having Leamington FC on board is testament to the range and quality we can offer and with the thousands of design options available we aim to continue this growth. After sitting down with Jim and the team it was clear to see the direction the club were going and we are very much looking forward to playing our part in this”.

Leamington FC Chairman Jim Scott said, "After conducting a thorough tender process, we are delighted to announce our partnership with Surridge Sport. The ability to create and manufacture our own unique identity in both on and off field apparel is a huge plus for the club. The quality of product on offer is identical to those they supply to professional clubs with other key factors being their extensive stock range allied to well established and flexible ordering and delivery processes that meet the needs of all sections of our club. We look forward to working with Surridge Sport over the years to come”.

“The design process for the new ‘gold and black’ home shirts and ‘royal blue with gold trim’ away shirts has already commenced. When starting the process of finding new suppliers one of our key aims was to engage a company who could deliver us a bespoke kit that reflected both the history of the club and colours worn during its history. We are certain that fans will be excited with the end product which we will be launching in the summer”.

As mentioned in the last club update, a drainage system was set to be installed on our training pitch. Installing the system is critical for the delivery of our community activities and was completed today, with the primary and secondary drainage installed on the training pitch and over seeding completing the job this morning.

We would like to thank all fans who have made contributions in order to make sure we can carry out this work. Anyone who still wishes to make a donation can donate using the link below:

Pictures can be seen below of the work done on the training pitch!
