(Match abandoned due to floodlight failure)
Evostik Southern League Premier Division
Phillips 66 Community Stadium
Tuesday 20th December 2016

Leamington’s attempts to potentially move ten points clear at the top of the table came to a premature end as their clash with in form Chesham United was abandoned due to a partial floodlight failure with around fifteen minutes played.

The visitors had started the game well, and had gone ahead after six minutes when Barry Hayles nudged the ball over Tony Breeden, who had rushed from his line, and Ryan Blake was on hand to crash it into the net. Breeden was incensed, appearing to claim that Hayles had used his hand to knock the ball over him, but after consulting her assistant closest to the Brakes goal, Referee Sarah Garrett stuck with her decision to award the goal.

Leamington came very close to a leveller when Ahmed Obeng’s shot was scrambled off the line following a corner. Toby Little was then denied by a fine challenge from Connor Gudger as he threatened to get in on goal from the left, while Courtney Baker-Richardson’s fine diagonal pass to Obeng on the left inside the penalty area saw the striker’s first time shot kept out by a fine save from Ashlee Jones, however the offside flag was raised.

The game was shaping up nicely so it was a great shame when some of the lights failed, and with a quick solution unable to be found, the game was abandoned. The fixture will be replayed in 2017, with details to be released in due course.
