Brakes earned a comfortable victory over newly promoted North Warwickshire neighbours Bedworth United courtesy of three second half goals from a Trialist, Matt Stenson and Chekaine Steele.
An explosive start saw Tony Breeden make a great double save in the opening minutes from the Greenbacks’ number 7 to deny the hosts a perfect start whilst Joe Magunda was inches away from glancing home a header from a Kieran Dunbar free kick only moments later.
The remainder of the first half was a generally low key affair with Brakes defenders making couple of key blocks to deny our former striker Danny Dubidat. Brakes’ new striker Matt Stenson headed wide of the far post from a deep free kick from Joe Clarke.
Brakes were unchanged at the beginning of the second half and took the lead in the 54th minute when having been fouled in attacking third, Stenson took a quick free kick playing it into path of a Trialist, who skated past one player before striking home a shot from outside penalty box that appeared to deceive Greenbacks keeper Dan Crane and nestled in the net. The lead was doubled two minutes later when a good interchange of play saw Junior English deliver a cross to the far post that was finished superbly by Stenson’s header.
On the hour mark Stenson and Dunbar were replaced by Chekaine Steele and Callum Gittings. Brakes now had a firm grip of the game, with Gittings finishing a neat free flowing move with a near post piledriver that Crane turned around the post. Further changes saw Morrison, James, Nicholson and Caswell enter the fold in the last half hour without affecting Brakes dominance.
Brakes rounded off an encouraging second half display when good interplay between Morrison and the Trialist saw the latter cross to the far post to the onrushing Steele who tucked home the simplest of chances.
