Over the last few weeks since the end of the season, the pitch has been aerated, major holes filled with sand, overseeded, covered (to encourage growth) and cut. The work will continue with the addition of 100 tons of special sand to help level it out. Areas will be overseeded again and it will be cut, weeded and prepared for the friendlies in July. Not much of a rest after what has been one of the worst seasons for weather since 2000.
The pitch is beginning to look beautiful. Come and have a look!
Better still - if you have a few hours to spare on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday morning during the next few weeks why not come along and join our small band of volunteers, and lend a hand with many of the maintenance jobs that need doing?
There is painting (inside and out), cleaning (stands, railings and more), woodwork repair, weed spraying of the car parks, placing wood chippings amongst various other jobs to do. It is a great way to find out more about running a non league club and you will be most welcome. Only enthusiasm required.
Chairman Jim Scott has added that there will be 'Volunteering Nights' starting on Wednesday evening 13th June from 6.30 to 8.30. 'Put on your overalls, bring your gloves and help get the ground ready for the new season - plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits.' If you are able to spare some time please do get down and help out. As with all non league clubs, supporters and volunteers are the lifeblood that keeps us going. Your help will be very much appreciated.
