The club are delighted to announce the arrival of Ben Usher-Shipway as our first new signing of the close season.
The 23 year old recently left Solihull Moors after a 3 year spell. He made 15 appearances in total for the Moors but spent a lot of time out on loan to gain significant experience.
Ben began his career at Boldmere St Michaels, which is where his father (Also Ben) made a goalscoring debut for Brakes in our very first game in the Midland Alliance back in 2005. He progressed through the Mikes' youth system and into the first team, where his performances were noticed by Solihull, who snapped him up in June 2019.
In his first season there Ben spent spells with Alvechurch, Nuneaton Borough and Sutton Coldfield Town. He extended his contract at the Moors in 2020, and has subsequently spent time on loan with Stourbridge and more recently Rushall Olympic, who he helped into the Southern League Play Offs last season.
On his first aquisition of the summer, manager Paul Holleran said: 'We're delighted to get this one over the line. Ben is a young lad with experience at a higher level, and we are really looking forward to working with him.
'He is a versatile lad who can play on the wing or in defence, and we feel he has all the attributes to take a similar path that other young players have done while at Leamington.'
We spoke to Ben on joining the Brakes, and he told us 'I’m delighted to join the club, a club of a great history and to play for a manager who everyone in non league admire. I’m looking forward to getting my head down and prove myself at the level. The past 3 years have been stop start for me so I’m looking forward to having a full season in the national league and hopefully bring success to the club'
