Disappointed seems to be the key word after matches in the last few weeks unfortunately, and it was the same up at Spennymoor today as Paul Holleran summed up his thoughts on the latest 90 minutes of action……
‘The conditions made it very difficult with the wind and playing up the slope made it hard going, especially in the first half, but I thought we defended our box really well, looked a threat on the break. The goal was a little bit disappointing, it was a good finish from their lad but you always felt we had a chance with so many advantages in the second half, and right from the word go, Ahmed’s had a great opportunity to equalise….. The keeper’s almost sat on the ball really. We’ve had a lot of play, a lot of crosses into the box but we probably didn’t work their keeper enough with it. We then get the big chance to go level with the penalty and if that goes in it probably changes the momentum of the game - at 1-1 with ten to go it’s all us then, but that probably lifted them a little bit and flattened us.
‘It’s a tough place to come for a lots of different reasons, but to leave with nothing again, we’re bitterly disappointed. On another day we could have won the game, but our performances haven’t been bad. If we can keep the levels there….. I thought our game management was much better today than last week. We’re in a tough run of fixtures at the moment and we just need to keep the performance levels up and start picking up some points really and take it from there.
‘There were plenty of plusses today. I thought young Sam Wilding did really well in the middle of the park; I thought Jack was excellent and Ahmed and Jordan looked a threat all game, but being better in the opponent's final third is something we’ve got to look at and work on.’
