Paul Holleran reacts to the Birmingham Senior Cup win over West Bromwich Albion which puts Brakes into the Semi Final…..
‘It was a good night’s work really. When you play these kind of teams in the Senior Cup you spend periods of the game without the ball. They’re very well drilled, very well organised. The last time we played Albion I thought they were a very good group of young players. I just think the difference tonight was that we got good quality in the box and they struggled a bit with Colby and Jack in periods of the game. We were quite ruthless in front of goal tonight and our set plays were right on the button.
It’s been a bit difficult because three of the players we brought in were cup tied and then we’ve had some little niggles too but getting minutes back into Connor Gudger and Reece Flanagan was good. We tinkered with the shape a little bit as well, playing Ahmed in the hole, I thought he did well there. Colby and Jack I thought were excellent too. Connor Taylor too, hopefully that won’t be anything too serious that will put a dampener on the night. We were worried at first but it appears to be more of an impact injury. Colby was just tightening up a little when he came off towards the end, we didn’t want to risk anything else really. Kieran Dunbar has had his operation as well which went really well, so he will now start the long road to recovery.
On Connor Carson making his debut:
‘We’ve been rotating some of the youth team lads to come training with the first team, so Connor’s been training with us and he’s done well. He’s done well for the Youth Team as well. It was a good opportunity for him to have a look at things properly on a match day. He’s got a little trick and he’s a pocket dynamo too. He’s trained really well. Hopefully it shows the boys that we are looking within the ranks.’
