Paul Holleran gives his reaction to the narrow defeat to in form Stockport…..
‘We always knew it was going to be a big ask, but we had a couple of bodies back. It’s been a tough period for us the last few weeks, there’s no doubt about it. We’ve had injuries, suspensions, we’ve had a flu bug… and I think Saturday at Boston, we did ever so well for an hour but our options were limited due to losing a couple of players on the morning of the game. The players did really well on a heavy pitch. We had to find a way in the last half an hour, but we did that with some great saves by Tony Breeden, and we got a great point, and we’ve gone again tonight, we’ve got a couple of players back and have been able to add Sam (Wilding) to the squad.
‘The players have given everything they can really tonight. We’ve fought and scrapped and battled with a decent side, a good side. It was a game of few chances from our point view. We’ve probably got round the back of their left hand side about three times… Junior, Jordan and probably Connor (Taylor)... but we haven’t found that bit of quality… I think all three have gone through to the keeper possibly. We had good moments in the game, we had good spells in the first half when we got Jordan and Ahmed into the game, and Colby…. Lots of half chances, a couple of half chance headers, but I think probably the best team won. I can’t deny that, but at the same time I couldn’t have asked for any more from our boys.
‘We always knew what a tough period this would be - lots of away games against good sides. We haven’t won one, but aside from one half of football, we’ve done ok. We’ve got some points on the board. The fixtures turn a bit now and hopefully we can look to turn some of these draws into wins and see where that takes us.
We were hoping to have Connor Gudger back tonight, we did a bit of work in training with him on Thursday and then again at Boston on Saturday, and we spoke to him on Monday but really it’s not quite right. We’ve got to be careful because it’s an injury that if we rush him back, it could keep him out for even longer. Jack Lane did really well in that position tonight, it’s a role we know he can do, so that was good. Kieran Dunbar has had a scan and we’re waiting for the results of that. We think that there could be a fracture in there, so that’s one that could go on for a bit as well. So yeah, we’re a little bit stretched, but I thought that the players who were out there really battled, fought, scrapped, showed some good quality at times, but just in that final third, that little bit of composure and quality that you need - we didn’t have it, and you need it against these sorts of teams because the intensity of the way they play, the way they defend and close you down… you can see why they have gone on the run they are on, you really can, but we gave them something to think about tonight. They’ve been rolling some sides over quite comfortably lately but when they leave here tonight they’ll know they’ve been in a game, and we can’t do much more than that.’
