Leamington Football Club and Moreton Morrell College have entered into an exciting new partnership offering a football and education excellence programme
Students can apply for a full-time, two year Level 3 BTEC in Sport qualification which not only secures them with the equivalent of three A-Levels, and therefore offers a pathway to university or employment, but also provides a real opportunity for footballers to receive top class coaching and potential progression within their playing careers.
The sport programme is delivered by the highly qualified and experienced academic sport staff at Moreton Morrell College which is located on a 750 acre farm in the heart of Warwickshire. Facilities include three football pitches, rugby pitch, new sports hall, sports massage suite, fitness gym, sports lab and soon-to-be all-weather pitch and multi-use games area.
The course offers 10 hours a week of professional coaching, fitness training, nutritional advice, strength and conditioning and match analysis. There are elite and performance levels with competitive games being played in the National League U19 Alliance and also the Association of Colleges (AOC) League.
The coaching staff are led by David Phillips, ex professional and Wales international, FA cup winner and UEFA A licensed coach. David has worked for the college over the last 15 years and has a proven track record of leading teams to success within the college. The academy is also supported by Samuel Oji, who is a semi-professional footballer currently playing centre back for Northern Premier League Premier Division club Hednesford Town plus Leamington FC first team midfielder Kieran Dunbar who was formerly within the Birmingham City FC Academy system.
Students on the academy programme also have the added benefits to attend guest coaching sessions with and from the first team at Leamington FC, along with receiving season tickets to the club, work experience opportunities along with regular scouting sessions. All home matches are played at Leamington FC's 3000 capacity Phillips 66 Community Stadium.
