The club are pleased to announce that three more of last season’s squad have agreed to return for the 2018/2019 campaign.
Kieran Dunbar, Liam Canavan and Ahmed Obeng have all opted to remain with Brakes as Paul Holleran continues to build a squad with the aim of consolidating in the Vanarama National League North once more.
Dunbar joined from league rivals AFC Telford United early in the season, initially on loan, making his debut in the 2-1 win at FC United of Manchester, and the youngster went on to play a big part, making 40 appearances and scoring 2 goals.
Canavan’s pre season was unfortunately disrupted by injury which restricted him to 27 appearances, but he showed plenty of signs of the quality that saw Holleran snap him up from Kettering Town last summer, scoring 5 goals, some of them vital ones, and supplying a fantastic cross for Matty Dodd’s goal at York City which sealed survival last season.
Obeng bagged a brace in the opening day win at Gainsborough Trinity, scoring 5 goals in 42 games as he made a big contribution again in his second season at the club.
Meanwhile, the manager has confirmed that Matty Dodd will be looking for a club closer to his Cannock home after linking up with us for a second spell towards the end of last season and playing a big part in securing our league status. ‘Matty will be looking to play his football a little closer to home next season,’ said Holleran. ‘We always knew that would be the case as he only joined us until the end of the season but he played a huge part in helping us stay up and has always been a popular figure at the club. We wish him all the very best in his next move.’
Another key figure from the second half of last season, striker Daniel Udoh, has opted to join AFC Telford United after his release from Crewe Alexandra. The busy young front man made a huge impact with team mates and fans alike when he joined on loan, initially for a month, in mid January, but he ended up extending his stay until the penultimate game of the season, and made 17 appearances in total, scoring 5 goals.
‘We had hoped to be able to persuade Danny to join up with us on a permanent basis but he lives in Telford and it was a no brainer for him really,’ said Paul Holleran. ‘He was absolutely terrific for us in his short time at the club and I am sure he will do well for Telford.’
The club are delighted to welcome Kieran, Liam and Ahmed back into the fold, and offer many thanks and best wishes to both Matty and Daniel for their sterling efforts for us last season.
