Jack Edwards has become the latest member of last seasons squad to agree terms for the forthcoming season.
Since making his debut from the substitutes bench in a 2-1 win at Hednesford Town in August 2014, the midfielder has made 369 appearances for Brakes, captaining the side in the vast majority of those games, and has scored 60 goals.
Jack was part of the squad that suffered relegation from the National League back in 2015, and was at the forefront as we returned two seasons later. He is the only member of that 2016/17 squad remaining at the club, so there is nobody more experienced on the field that knows what is required if we are to have a successful campaign.
Although he has now relinquished the captaincy, manager Paul Holleran believes Edwards still has a big part to play as the squad shapes up for battle in the Southern League once more. 'We are hoping that Jack will relish having the freedom to be able to focus solely on his game now he has stepped down from captaining the side, and that with his health concerns now firmly behind him, we will see the Jack Edwards that we know and love return.'
For the player himself, there was never any doubt that he would stay:
'There are so many people I love at this club, I owe them a big season. We’ve made some great signings, so it was an easy decision to stay. Besides, I couldn’t leave Leamington, my Mum loves it too much, and head steward Kate (Fisher) would never speak to me again!'
We are looking forward to seeing Jack and the rest of the midfield tearing up Southern League defences this season!!
