‘I think York have been labelled the team to beat this season for a good reason - you could certainly see it in spells today, but I thought for long periods we did alright. First half was pretty even, we’ve had a couple of chances, they’ve had a couple, but we’ll be disappointed with the goals, both were very similar. With both they’ve been able to get crosses in our box without us getting any pressure on the ball, and it’s a free header at the back post and a free shot at the near post. From a full back scenario it’s something we spoke about, we had to get out and stop crosses and the two centre halves front and back post, we’ve probably got to be stronger, that’s the disappointing thing.
‘I think the start of the second half showed the difference between the two teams. They really came out strongly and we were on the back foot then, but we tinkered with our shape a bit and got some fresh legs and I thought we did really well then. Prior to their second goal Josh March had two great chances to get us an equaliser, so we’ve been in the game. We’ve probably been in this game more than last years 2-2 draw here, barmy as it sounds. We just managed to nick two goals at the death, but today we’ve had decent spells of possession and we’ve had some good individual performances. We were well aware that this week was going to be tough and it has proved to be. You always hope that you’ll come away from home and keep clean sheets and nick results here and there and get in a good performance. It hasn’t happened yet but we’ve certainly been in games. I think we’ll look back at today, at the video clips and see that we haven’t stopped crosses and we knew that would be important with the two lads they have up top, but we haven’t done that. I was pleased with lots of individual performances and spells we had in the game - we’ve got plenty to work with and we can get a bit of recovery this week now; three of our next four games are at home so we can kick on from this hopefully.
On the yellow cards
‘It seems to be happening a lot just at the moment, lots of yellow cards are coming out for little things. I watch a lot of games and sometimes officials have to realise that a free kick is enough, but when they start cautioning players for little things, opposition players and both sets of players are then going to expect them for anything, and it puts Referees under pressure then. I thought the officials were ok today, but there’s definitely been a couple where you’ve thought - Really? It’s like with Boston and last Saturday, you get time to look at it all…. We’ve got a player missing for five games, and we’re struggling to work out why he’s missing. We’ve conceded a penalty where the player should have been booked for diving. They’re doing all these silly little things but they’re not getting the big decisions right. I think at the moment the coaching staff and the Referees have got their work cut out because sadly it’s not where it needs to be, but they’re not the reason we lost 2-0 today.’
