Paul Holleran reflected on yesterday’s fine away win at Aggborough against Kidderminster Harriers this morning……
‘Obviously we’re delighted with the win. When Joe Ironside scored early doors you’re thinking it’s going to be a tough afternoon this, but the way Kiddy play, and obviously they’ve got to win football matches so they’re probably playing an extra player on a high line, but I thought that if we could defend well and we could break and get the ball out to Ahmed and Jordan from the middle of the park - not short passes, good 35/40 yard balls to get away from the pack, we could get on to their back three. And it worked a treat in the first half. We looked a real threat, and I think because Kiddy had a couple of players on a high line there was always going to be goals in the game, it was whether we could keep them out and whether we could be efficient on the counter attack, and we did that well for an hour - first half and the start of the second half we were excellent really. I think possibly the full time side of it showed towards the end, they got round the back of us more and we faded a little bit so we got some fresh legs on to help. I think they will look back at that period of the game and feel that they were wasteful while we will look back at it and feel that there were some fantastic defensive performances in that period, but it certainly wasn’t a backs to the wall job.
‘I get on well with Mark (Yates, Harriers manager) and i’d love him to do well and get into the play offs, but I think from our point of view, with what happened at Leamington earlier on in the season when we were taken apart by Kidderminster it was great to go there and perform as well as we did and get the result we did. There were so many outstanding performances yesterday. The players were playing with a bit of freedom and some players have grown into positions and partnerships and combinations. It e was a really good day for us, and I’m well aware of the history from years back with AP Leamington and Kiddy so it will have been great for some of our older fans for us to get a result there.’
‘The aim has always been to get to that 50 point mark. It was a target that deep down I thought we could get to, but it’s not easy in this division. We’ve a couple of games to go and a cup final to look forward to, so it’s great at the moment. Days like yesterday are hard to come by in this division. To go to Kidderminster, a full time football club and get a result and play as well as we did….. To see young Colby Bishop playing so well, Jordan and Ahmed were superb, and I’m really pleased for Jack Lane as well, he’s come into the team and done superbly over the last few games, but there were lots of good performances and it was a super day for us.’
