As a player Richard Morris is as synonymous as Josh Blake with Leamington FC in the early years of the renaissance. He made his debut in the 2000/01 season having come out of the newly formed Brakes Academy and played 14 times as back up to the experienced Paul O'Keefe before making the number 1 shirt his own the following season as Brakes moved up another level and won promotion again.

Departing for Alveston after playing only 3 games in 2002/03, 'Mozza' returned the following season to eventually oust James Gettings as number 1.

During the early years it was well known that most of the players also turned out for a number of successful Sunday sides in the area and Rich was one of these - except he played up front! He displayed his eye for goal with four penalties for Leamington over the years, his first coming in a 6-0 win at Southam United in December 2003.

The other three came the following season as Leamington enjoyed a memorable campaign, winning the Midland Combination by a record points margin, in wins over Coventry Sphinx and at Highgate United, while the final one was a 90th minute equaliser at Brocton to earn a 2-2 draw.

In the Midland Alliance the following season Richard shared goalkeeping duties mainly with Paul Shepherd as Leamington played over 60 games due to great success in cup competitions. He did the same the following campaign with the experienced Jason Pearcey as Brakes won promotion back to the Southern League with a league and cup double, Rich making a vital and absolutely brilliant save in the League Cup final against Tipton with the score at 0-1 and time ticking away.

With the club back in the Southern League Rich enjoyed his most consistent season for us in 2007/08, starting all but one of our 55 games. He didn't make quite so many appearances the following season due to injury but still played a big part in another Championship winning campaign.

The following season Richard left the club for league rivals Brackley Town but still received warm applause from supporters of his old club when he returned. He did make a brief return in pre season of 2010/11, but went on to play for a number of other clubs in the local area, having made just shy of 300 appearances for his hometown club.
