Barry Shearsby was another of Jason Cadden and Barry Proctor's initial signings that lasted the distance, statying at the club for over 4 seasons and helping us up two levels of the pyramid.
He made his debut in the 4-1 win at Leamington Hibs, coming on as a substitute for Brian Agar, and scored his first goals a few weeks later, a double in a 2-2 draw at Cadbury Athletic.
He rarely scored simple goals, and was the first Brakes player to net in the FA Vase in the 1-0 win at Barrow Town in our first ever game in the competition. He also scored the winner in a memorable game at Alsager Town the following season. He was also called upon to play in goal in a cup semi final in the 2001/02 season, conceding just once in an hour before he was replaced by regular keeper Richard Morris as Brakes eventually won the tie 3-2.
There was a bit of a sad footnote to Baz's time at Leamington as he left early in the 2004/05 season, and returned on the final day with Alveston as their captain, forced to watch on as Brakes won 7-0 and collected the Midland Combination Premier Division title. His contribution to our rise should not be overlooked, and he deserved to be celenrating with us.
