Danny Newton arrived at Leamington in January 2014 from Brackley Town shortly after Stefan Moore had gone in the opposite direction. He had never really been given the opportunity to shine at Brackley but he most certainly did at Leamington, and it was arguably here that he began to propel his career to new heights that would eventually lead to a move into the professional game at Stevenage.
Danny scored 11 times in 17 games in the latter half of 2013/14, following it up with another 20 the following season as he was made captain, but with Brakes fighting to avoid the drop two controversial red cards in successive games meant that he missed 5 games of the run in, and despite 3 in 3 on his return we were relegated in the penultimate game of the season.
Having agonised over whether to stay as he felt a degree of regret over the position the club now found itself in, Danny remained in the Conference North with Tamworth and hit another gear with his goalscoring over the next two seasons which led to Stevenage coming calling after a successful time at Jamie Vardy's V9 Academy in the summer of 2017.
Danny took to the professional game like a duck to water, as everybody at Leamington and no doubt Tamworth too, knew he would. His work rate and tireless running endeared him to another set of supporters, and he finished his first season at Stevenage as top goalscorer, also winning the player of the year award to add to the ones picked up at his previous two clubs.
While Danny may not have directly moved to into the professional game from Leamington he fully acknowledges that his time with us helped him on his journey there, and it is with a great sense of pride that Brakes supporters still keep an eye on how he is doing, which is a testament to the man himself.
