He may have been part of arch rivals Rugby Town's bid to beat Leamington to any silverware going over the first few seasons of the renaiassance, but mention the name Leon Morgan to any Leamington supporter who witnessed the early years and they will more than likely have only good things to tell you. Leon was one of a number of players to make the hop from East Leamingtonshire after Town disbanded again, and he became a pivotal figure in his first season as Leamington stormed to the Midland Combination Premier Division title by 19 points.
Leon also played a big part in our first season in the Midland Alliance as we competed valiantly on all fronts. He will no doubt have great memories of the FA Cup run as Brakes competed in the world's most famous cup competition for the first time since 1987 and incredibly went all the way from the Preliminary Round to the 1st Round proper. Leon scored an absolute screamer in the 1-0 win at higher ranked Kidsgrove Athletic, and who could forget his spectacular save in the dramatic win at Osset Town which earned the passage to the First Round? He was of course sent off, but that didn't stop him from celebrating with team mates and fans on the pitch at the end!
Sadly Leon's last appearance for Leamington came in the disappointing MFA League Cup Final defeat to Barwell at the end of that unforgettable 2005/06 season, as he decided to retire from playing the following season, although there were reports of him turning out for Wellingborough Town in the United Counties League. It was a real shame as he would have surely been a big part of what was to follow, and he undoubtedly had the quality to play at a higher level of the game.
