Paul Holleran gave us his thoughts after the narrow defeat to York City..........
‘Sadly it’s taking a bit of a familiar pattern for us at the moment really, where we’re having a really good go in games, creating lots of chances…. There was lots of energy there today, lots of good individual performances, but it’s another defeat. I think the last four games, certainly the Blyth one and today, we could have won if we’d been a bit more clinical. I think when we look back at the goal we’ll be disappointed with that. It was difficult in the first half with the conditions but we defended well. York are a good side with good players, and I think the biggest compliment to us was second half, when we had a real good go and really got at them…. You could see the belief coming back into the players, and when you’ve got York City switching to a diamond and changing to five at the back to contain you…. I mean it’s good play from them but we’ll look back at two or three moments in the game where we should have done better. One on ones, free headers…. We’re not hitting targets, which is frustrating. We saw it last week at Spennymoor when we had two or three. In these type of games there’s not going to be 10 chances each. They’ve had a couple, we’ve had four or five probably, but we haven’t worked the keeper enough again, which is disappointing because there was some good build up play, lots of good individual performances again, and I think as a manager sometimes you have to look at that. At the moment there’s not really a lot that I can criticise. I’ve just got to keep the players ticking over, it’s a difficult run of games, things aren’t quite going our way, we’ve got good players injured. Connor Taylor’s broke down in the warm up today, Dan Sweeney’s gone off with a thigh strain - there’s lots of little things are going against us at the moment, and then on the pitch we’re certainly not getting the bounce of the ball or the rub of the green. We’ve just got to stick at it. We’re experienced at this, that’s one thing I will say is in our favour, and I just think that if the players can keep the individual levels up…. We’re getting closer to a clean sheet which I think is important for us, and these chances can start going in for us... I firmly believe that lots of things we’re doing are right… the level of commitment and effort from the players, there’s no question marks there. It’s a difficult run, we’re losing against good sides, but we could easily have had 12 points from the last four games, that’s just where we are at the moment, but we’ve got to keep going, keep working really hard and creating chances like we are, and hopefully these 1-0 defeats will turn into 1-0 wins and we’ll all be a bit happier.’
