Paul Holleran was understandably delighted with the win over Altrincham…..
‘We’re really delighted with the result. I think the first half, although we perhaps had a slight advantage with the conditions, was a fantastic forty five minutes. We didn’t let them breathe, and in among recent games where we haven’t been able to turn draws into victories, there’s been some good performances, and the group deserve that today, because you go back to last Saturday at Boston - lads were dropping like flies on Friday and Saturday morning. We’ve realistically got twelve fit players, and then Kieran Dunbar fractures the top of his shin after eight minutes….so they’ve really had to dig in and work hard. We had a couple of bodies back on Tuesday night, we’ve got another couple back today.
‘We were excellent today. We scored good goals…..Whereas in the Stockport game I felt we turned down the opportunity to get crosses in, the quality wasn’t good enough, today was completely different. We worked on it on Thursday night, we spoke about getting the ball in quicker, beating that first centre half and asking questions. It was as good a first forty five minutes as we’ve had for some time. People start asking questions when you haven’t had such a great run, and it’s been a while since our last win, but we haven’t lost many either, and we’ve shown lots of character. We’ve still been picking up points and that’s important. In amongst all the injuries and suspensions and everything else, we’ve kept at it in this division, we’ve competed.
‘I felt today we looked a bit fresher, a bit brighter. After Tuesday we had a recovery session on Thursday, and we looked bang at it today, so I’m absolutely delighted.
