Brakes out of cup in a cracker

Young Brakes tasted defeat for the first time this season in the preliminary round of the FA Youth Cup in front of a good sized crowd at the Phillips 66 Community Stadium.

It was a welcome back for Darren Timms, a former Brakes stalwart from the Jason Cadden era, as manager of 2nd year Stratford Town.

Brakes kicking towards the Harbury Lane End enjoyed a period of early pressure with Winarski and Al-Amin linking up well around the edge of the penalty area, but in the 9th minute one such move was intercepted and a long ball out of defence found the Stratford number nine who ran 40 yards outpaced the two markers and clinically finished the counter move to make it 1-0 Stratford.

More was to follow from the dangerous centre forward Dylan Parker. Breaking free on the left he forced a smart save out of Hopkison in the Brakes goal, Town's Sacha Everard hit the bar from another cross from wide left, and a superbly placed square pass from Parker set up Rowe who scuffed his shot from the edge of the box. Brakes retaliated with a run from Lewis Annuls to set up Shay Nicholson, whose shot was deflected for a corner. In the 29th minute Parker was on a run again but on this occasion Brakes keeper was out quickly to close down the threat.minutes later Parker had the ball in the net but was adjudged to have fouled the keeper. Parker was proving to be the difference between the teams and his speed and strength was causing havoc in an otherwise well organised Brakes defence. It was no surprise when once again on a run from a long ball he beat his marker and rounded the keeper to slot his second of the night.

On the stroke of halftime Brakes should have pulled a vital goal back when Al- Amin missed an open goal header from 8 yards following a pinpoint cross from the right.

Half time Leamington 0 Stratford 2.

The second half started in a similar vein to the first and sure enough on 50 minutes Parker completed an outstanding hatrick latching onto a well placed through ball and slotting home neatly from the edge of the box. 3-0 and game over you would think. But don't write off the boys in gold and black, Cue a batteling fight back from the Brakes. Following some neat approach play wide on the right the impressive Shay Nicholson buried a cross from 12 yards. 1-3

Leamington were in the accendency and minutes later Lewis Annuls finished a similar move with a perfect shot rising into the top corner on 62 minutes.Stratford weathered the storm as the Brakes brought on the excellent Quartermaine to bolster the midfield and although Town had an effort cleared off the line Brakes almost levelled it at the other end as Swiercz jinked through to fire a shot just past the far post.

The impressive Parker burst through in his now charisteristic style from inside his own half to run into the Brakes penalty area to play a perfect square pass to Rowe whose shot was blocked out by a determined Brakes defence.

There was still time for a late equaliser when Quartermaine went close with a well struck free kick just over the upright from 23 yards. 4 minutes of additional time was played before Referee Michael Jones blew up to seal the Brakes first reversal of the season. The crowd had been well entertained on a night when young Dylan Parker stole the show.
